It’s been a busy few months, not least involving a house move. However one project that has been bubbling along during that time has been Estelle & Vincent, a private dining/catering small business based in west London. The eponymous duo are a French/French-Canadian couple and – in my opinion – outstanding at what they do. I’ve been lucky enough to be fed samples of anything Vincent (the chef) has been preparing while we have filmed. Filming has stretched out because it has needed to encompass a trip to the farmer’s market and of course a service for clients. We finally captured a dinner service last week and here is a short trailer based on the evening.

This week I finally filmed a clip on Scoop.ed which is a charming little coffee bar and ice cream parlour in East Dulwich. I’d been talking about doing this with Sarah, the founder, for months and finally we scheduled it in the diary for a Wednesday early evening after business hours. It’s always a little bit tricky filming under changing light conditions – in this case the sun was setting – but overall we’re both really pleased with how it turned out. I think Sarah’s got a good voice, so it made for strong narration.

Very exciting development int the last 24 hours. FF has been searching for a community project to develop in 2011, and it looks like we’ve found the perfect one. Just a short drive away, hidden among the desirable and expensive period properties of Dulwich, is Herne Hill Velodrome. It is the last remaining Finals venue from the 1948 Olympics and is in a far from ideal state. That’s the basis of the ‘Save the Velodrome‘ campaign and it looks like FF will able to bring that campaign to life in glorious HD! Updates to follow.

Serendipity is a wonderful thing. It just so happened that when I approached ESPH last year they were in the market for exactly the services FF could provide – high quality, sophisticated short films that could help sell their high quality, sophisticated services. In their case ESPH combine expertise in physiotherapy (they have a Harley street practice) with a gym in East Dulwich which places physiotherapy at its core. I have recently completed a second commission for ESPH and it seems there is scope for a significant expansion in our business relationship this year. Exciting times! Stay tuned.

The commute to my day job takes me through Battersea Park. One morning I noticed a very interesting-looking business built into the railway arches near the entrance. I researched the company and it occurred to me that such a business might be in the market for a polished short film. One introductory pitch, one written proposal and one development meeting later and Comprex London had commissioned FF. Comprex London design, project manage, deliver and install the beautiful high-end kitchens of Comprex, an Italian manufacturer. This clip will be incorporated within their existing website.

Spent the morning filming at Ganapati in Peckham Rye. Ganapati is a South Indian restaurant run by an English lady who is an unassuming expert on the cuisine of Kerala. She is a skilled chef and can be found bringing Ganapati’s exquisite dishes to life in the kitchen. She wasn’t interested in a film that gave an overview of the business but rather wanted FF to craft something which brought Ganapati’s recipe cards to life (which are available to buy). We filmed three dishes (there are 40 recipes in the box set) from start to finish – ingredients, cooking at every stage, presentation – with filming taking place simultaneously for the three dishes which had varying amounts of preparation and cooking. It was a very busy morning with the deadline looming of lunch service – but I think we nailed it. And to top it off I was served a sumptuous lunch afterward which, in my honest opinion, was sensational. I’ve been working on the Tease clip for the films, so let me serve that up as a starter for you right now…
